Understanding the Will of God

We know far more than we actually act upon. How does that make you feel? Maybe you know that God wants you to invite a friend to church, but you are too afraid; or He urges you to start a Christian band in your garage and cover the high school dances, but you think "that could never happen." We (christian or otherwise) WORRY way to much, it's time to drop our worries and depressions and start relying on God. In Matthew 11:30, Jesus says, "My yoke is easy and my burden is light" He is here to take our worries away and make us whole, if we would just allow Him too. If you are having trouble letting go, if the world is on your shoulders and its slowing crushing you, consider the following...

1. Life is too short to worry about tomorrow and we certainly don't know what it's going to bring. Matthew 6:34 says, today is sufficient for its own trouble. That means that we can't let the worries of tomorrow rob you of your strength today. Trust that God will lead you, and know that He will always lead you down the right path, even if you don't think it's the right one. Most importantly, make today matter the most. Not in the worldly sense of "Eat, Drink and be Merry for tomorrow we die"but rather in a heavenly sense. Love Jesus more than you did yesterday, express your grace and mercy to others more than you did last night. You never know when your last day on earth is going to be, so make every day count.
Now, while the above paragraph is riddled with cliches' like nobodies business, it's also (hopefully) thought provoking and full of love.

2. Learning to live in God's will is not easy. We (christian or otherwise) as a people are selfish. We want what we want and we want it now! We/I need to learn to control these earthly demands and rely on God and what He wants for us.
Before I really started learning about God's will, I had a hard time understanding how to follow it. It didn't make sense to me; I can't physically talk to Jesus like we could back in "bible times"…So, how am I supposed to follow something that I can't hear or see? Believe it or not God has made much (not all) of His will known to you and me. We can learn so much about God's will through the words that were written in the bible. I'm not here to say that if you have a question about dating the boy down the street, you are going to be able to open the bible and find a verse that says, 'Thou shalt not dateth thine neighbor boy' but you could find some very helpful insight on dating/courting, marriage and even what true friendship (or enmity) looks like.
Aside from reading God's word, we can also directly ask Him for help. Prayer is a powerful and ever accessible tool! If you aren't clear on something, ask God for guidance… You may not get an answer right away, and you may not get the answer you LIKE, but know that God is listening and He will answer. We need to develop hearts that WANT God's will no matter the outcome.

3. When you have heard God's will in whatever form you are seeking it through, it's time to act upon it! Do what you know to do. If you pray for a relationship and God says it's not in His timing right now, accept it. If you feel God telling you to pursue a new job, act on it. There is a difference between hearing/feeling God say something, and going off of a gut feeling. You will know when it's sincere and you better act on it, quick!
